This year, the competition marks a major milestone as its scale has been expanded following administrative boundary mergers, gathering over 320 outstanding students from Ca Mau and Bac Lieu provinces. This is not only an impressive number in terms of scale but also reflects the strong spread of the movement of learning and applying technology in teaching and learning mathematics in the Mekong Delta region.

The competition was hosted by the Department of Education and Training of Vinh Long Province, in collaboration with Binh Tay Import-Export Joint Stock Company (BITEX). Over the years, the competition has become a highly meaningful annual activity, contributing to identifying and nurturing students with outstanding abilities in logical thinking, calculation skills, and the application of technology to solve mathematical problems.

According to the Organizing Committee, this year's exam questions continue to be designed with a competency-development orientation, combining curriculum knowledge with the ability to use handheld calculators to solve practical problems. This helps encourage students to not only master theory but also flexibly and effectively apply technological tools.

The competition was first held in 1995 in Ho Chi Minh City, then implemented in Hanoi starting in 1996. From its practical effectiveness, the competition was gradually expanded by various Departments of Education and Training, becoming a familiar academic playground for generations of students nationwide.

In 2000, the competition was organized at the national level by the Ministry of Education and Training. During its peak period, 17 national-level competitions were held. In many localities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, Vinh Long, An Giang, and Quang Ngai, the competition is still maintained on a large scale, attracting thousands of students every year.

In particular, the Excellent Student Competition in Solving Mathematics on Handheld Calculators was recognized by the Vietnam Record Association and the Vietnam Records Organization as the “Longest-running annual excellent student competition in solving mathematics on handheld calculators”. This is a testament to the endurance, prestige, and long-term value that the competition brings to the education sector.

With thorough preparation from the Organizing Committee, the companionship of relevant units, and the determination of the contestants, the 2025 – 2026 academic year competition is expected to continue making its mark, contributing to improving the quality of teaching and learning mathematics, while discovering young talents for the country.
