On March 14, the Department of Education & Training of Kien Giang Province, in collaboration with Binh Tay Import Export Joint Stock Company (BITEX), hosted the 15th Provincial Handheld Calculator Mathematics Competition for Excellent Students for the 2024-2025 school year.
This year's competition in Kien Giang province attracted more than 400 students. These are the students who passed rigorous selection rounds at the school and district levels to win a ticket to the provincial competition. Similar to previous competitions, the provincial round saw students competing in 5 subjects, including: Middle School Mathematics, and High School Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The organizing committee is expected to award more than 100 prizes to high-achieving contestants in the first, second, and third places.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Tran Quang Bao - Director of the Department of Education & Training of Kien Giang Province, expressed his hope to organize the handheld calculator mathematics competition online next year. In particular, technology must be quickly applied so that students can use it practically in their studies and exams.

Ms. Tran Thanh Thao – General Director of Binh Tay Import Export Joint Stock Company (BITEX), the unit collaborating with the Departments of Education and Training to implement the competition, said that this is a playground that helps students access modern learning methods and apply technology to solve practical problems.
According to Ms. Thao, integrating technology into education is not merely a trend, but also an essential need for students to develop comprehensively and be ready to adapt to the changes of the digital world, especially in today's rapidly developing AI era.

“Teachers and parents always hope that students are not only knowledgeable but also have creative thinking and the ability to solve problems scientifically and effectively. Today's competition is an opportunity for them to show their courage, confidence, and the skills they have cultivated over the past time. More than just a competition, this is a journey to help them practice their spirit of learning, overcome challenges, and get closer to future success,” Ms. Thao shared.

It is known that the handheld calculator mathematics competition for excellent students was first held in 1995 in Ho Chi Minh City and was subsequently implemented nationwide. In 2024, the Vietnam Record Association and the Vietnam Records Organization officially recognized the record for the “Oldest Annual Handheld Calculator Mathematics Competition for Excellent Students” for Ho Chi Minh City.
